12 E-commerce KPIs You Should Track Weekly
Running an e-commerce store without tracking KPIs is like driving with your eyes closed. You might be moving, but you have no idea where you're going. Here are the 12 metrics that matter most.
Revenue Metrics
1. Gross Revenue — Total sales before returns, discounts, and taxes. This is your top-line number.
2. Net Revenue — What you actually keep after returns and discounts. If your gross-to-net ratio is dropping, investigate your return policy or discount strategy.
3. Average Order Value (AOV) — Total revenue divided by number of orders. A rising AOV means customers are buying more per visit. Tactics to increase it: product bundles, free shipping thresholds, upsells.
Customer Metrics
4. Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC) — Total marketing spend divided by new customers acquired. Know this number for each channel.
5. Customer Lifetime Value (LTV) — How much a customer spends over their entire relationship with your store. If LTV > 3x CAC, you have a healthy business.
6. Repeat Purchase Rate — What percentage of customers buy more than once? For most e-commerce stores, 25-30% is good. Above 40% is excellent.
Traffic & Conversion
7. Conversion Rate — Sessions that result in a purchase. E-commerce average is 2-3%. Anything above 3.5% is strong.
8. Cart Abandonment Rate — How many people add items but don't check out. Average is ~70%. Reduce it with exit-intent popups, abandoned cart emails, and one-page checkout.
9. Traffic by Source — Know where your visitors come from: organic, paid, social, email, direct. This tells you where to invest.
Product Metrics
10. Top Products by Revenue — Your 80/20 rule. Usually 20% of products drive 80% of revenue. Make sure these are always in stock and prominently displayed.
11. Product Return Rate — High returns on specific products signal quality issues, misleading descriptions, or sizing problems.
Operational
12. Fulfillment Time — Average time from order to shipment. Faster fulfillment = happier customers = more repeat purchases.
